Numeral V of The Gatita Chronicles

June 30, 2016July 13, 2021 / Writings By Rosemary / 13 Comments

People say that having a child changes your life.  I say that traveling with a cat alters your destiny or at least your destination. I used to be a spontaneous traveler, a fluid nomad of sub-cultures, a born again gypsy; now I'm a 50-something, widowed too early, with a hairball who holds court appreciating no one and … Continue reading Numeral V of The Gatita Chronicles

The Complexity of Simplicity

June 1, 2016July 13, 2021 / Writings By Rosemary / 5 Comments

Before this current sabbatical, I would have said that I was torn between my love of the ocean and that of the mountains.  After spending a month and a half in South Dakota then three weeks in Montana, my desire to see and hear big bodies of water overshadowed the rugged beauty of both of … Continue reading The Complexity of Simplicity

Sleeping in South Dakota

April 8, 2016September 13, 2023 / Writings By Rosemary / 5 Comments

In Mitchell, South Dakota, population 16,000, I wait for the weather to warm up and the Great Plains wind to die down, so I can sleep in a tipi for two nights on the Rosebud Sioux reservation.  After Rosebud, I'll continue west across the state to the Pine Ridge reservation and sleep at the Singing … Continue reading Sleeping in South Dakota

Remembrance and Reverence

March 25, 2016August 17, 2016 / Writings By Rosemary / 5 Comments

There is something honorable about remembering those who passed before us, choosing a day or two to give reverence. For some, it is the anniversary of their death in human form or the anniversary of their birth on earth, or even both dates. Many native American tribes had different rituals for how they respected and … Continue reading Remembrance and Reverence

Kathryn and Me

March 2, 2016September 13, 2024 / Writings By Rosemary / 4 Comments

Over the weekend, I engaged in a heavy dose of self-torture by reading about literary genius, Jonathan Franzen, and how he came to be so god-like to book critics. This followed with a dream in which I met Franzen, who refused to speak to me because he was disgusted with my writing.  It was, of course, a metaphor … Continue reading Kathryn and Me

Revitalization in Saginaw

February 20, 2016April 1, 2019 / Writings By Rosemary / 5 Comments

Last Friday, I presented to a Leadership class of juniors at Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) in Michigan, most of whom were in business programs but a few that were art and theater students as well.  After reading about the Hook Wild Basin Endowment, the professor, who I met at a dinner gathering, sent an email … Continue reading Revitalization in Saginaw

Who is Rosemary?

Unknown's avatarA writer, runner, and talent recruiter, I tell true tales on the stage and the page in the U.S. and the U.K. After winning two Moth StorySLAMS in Houston and London and opening at the Paramount Theatre ATX in 2024 for The Moth’s annual mainstage event, I'm returning to my writing roots. I launched two, one-act plays, The Mystery of the Plaid Shirts and the commissioned, A Pest Control Affair, via Hyde Park’s Frontera Fest. In 2025, I co-wrote my first screenplay, a comedy adventure about the intimacy needs and wants of women in the middle of their lives. My current WIP is a collection of essays + corresponding screenplay, working title *In the Land of Oz.* And ... if you’re into #Education and #Research, check out the Hook Wild Basin Endowment at WildBasin.org. Created by my late husband, Hook, and me our endowment awards up to 5 Hook Fellows $8,000/year with over 85 Hook Fellows to date. #NatureMatters.
